If I refinish a hardwood floor that has lots of nail holes in it from subfloor will it look horrible?

Is there any way to remedy this?





The people who lived in this house before need to be slapped for doing this. Underneath the linoleum and subfloor in my kitchen is some 100 year old maple flooring with lots of bird's eye maple in it. I want to refinish it but I'm afraid the nail holes will be too much.If I refinish a hardwood floor that has lots of nail holes in it from subfloor will it look horrible?
Actually, if you have the holes filled and then sand the floor it should come up beautifully. We just had a 118 year old floor done (and we had to replace some wood that was water damaged). The floor had been covered with a cement layer and then italian tiles put over that. We had lots of nail holes too from the cement sections they had nailed down. However once refinished it is absolutely beautiful and with the sanding, you can't tell the old sections from the new sections. After you strip/sand the top coat off, yo can fill in any holes or cracks with a stain able wood putty, or just make your own.


Then when it is refinished it will look like new, or even better.
It will be a lot of work to refinish it, but if you prep the floor properly and do a good job sanding, I think the nail holes will look wonderful. It will give the floor a lot of character.
Try a small area before you tackle the entire floor.
