I stepped on a nail but it wasnt rusty, and i cleaned it, but its white around my wound. Arent infections red?

It's an old wives's tale that a rusty nail can lead to tetanus (lockjaw). The rust isn't the problem, tetanus bacteria are.





The tetanus bacteria are ';anaerobic';, that means that they can't reproduce and thrive in the presence of oxygen. That's why puncture wounds carry an increased risk of tetanus - the germs are deep in the wound where they aren't exposed to the air.





You need to have a doctor check the wound and make sure your tetanus vaccine is current.

You need to see a doctor. While it wasn't a rusty nail, it was a puncture, and there is a risk of tetanus, which can be a life-threatening illness. The incubation period for tetanus starts in only a few days and symptoms can come on within a week, so you need to got a shot quickly. The white could be the skin dying, but could also be pus forming from an infection.

Go to the doctor. No one on Yahoo! Answers will be able to tell you for sure if you have an infected wound or not. Even if it's not infected, it's better to be safe than sorry. :)
