Or is it much of a muchness? Is it better to nail or screw decking timber on?
Screws are better for two reasons.
First, they hold more securely and don't pull out like nails can.
Second, if you do need to remove a board, it's easier to remove a screw. Is it better to nail or screw decking timber on?
Screws resist pull out better than nails, and you can unscrew them if you need to repair something.
Make sure to buy the correct screws for the material used.
All pressure treated lumber is now treated with ACQ, which is a much less toxic treatment high in copper. You must use fasteners listed as being compatible with ACQ. The copper reacts with the zinc in galvanized fasteners and destroys the fasteners quickly.
The place you should consider using nails is fastening the metal joist hangers to the plate, use the nails specified by the joist hanger manufacturer (Simpson Strong Tie for example) the nails are designed to have the proper shear strength.
I'd say better to screw it on because the screws are less likely to work themselves loose over time due to weather and temperature changes.
Screws. More secure hold , easier to get out. They will take a little longer than just nailing it, but in the long run its a better deal
screws.be sure they are deck screws.good luck.
screws
i concur with the last answer...screws are the better way to go
