well the thing is that iguanas have tissue in the nails


soo i bet he bleed when u did that


well if u took to much it will not


but if u got about half


theres a good chance for it to grow back


just feed him n wash the wound


n it will


i had one for like 2 years


n i did the same mistake


u just supposed to cut the part where there is no white


thats all

I feel that the best answer should have gone to evanesce...although I have owned an iguana before and didn't ask for any links. All I needed the answer to was my question. And Emro should not have gotten the best answer because of accusing me of doing that to a living creature.

Iguanas need lots of things ... and since you are new to the iguana world, I will give you some links for you to check out.





I wouldnt do the alchol, the cornstarch is best when you are cutting your iguanas nails and cut too close to the blood vessel. I would use Betadine soaked in bath tub, do not use too much like a very lite tea substance, use warmish water, do not fill the tub up too full, your ig will most likely not enjoy the tub at first. You need to keep the area clean, and houseing clean.





If you have your iguana in anything less the a 55 gallon tank, specially if it is small your iguana is in a tank that is too small. If you are using bark, sand, rocks for floor coving you need to remove those floor coverings are all bad ... newspaper, paper towels are easy clean ups and safe for your iguana.





Having it come from a carnival, I'd say it probably didnt have the proper food or the UVB and could possibly have other issues (mites or parasites) and should be seen by a vet who knows about iguanas. Vet may or may not want to remove toe, all depends on what the vet thinks it needs, but you need to find a vet that actually knows iguanas and has knowledge of iguanas, most vets that just deal w/ dogs and cats will give you bad/wrong information.





The nail may come back, but a big possibilty it may never, and that is fine, there are a bunch of iguanas out in the world that has lost whole toes/fingers.





You need to learn what to give your iguana food wise, UVB, heat, etc.

If you got it from a carnival its probably best to take it to a vet. He could have an infection from the nail hanging off plus he could have internal parasites that can kill him so you should take him for a check up to make sure he's healthy.
