Will a splinter that is under your nail come out without bothering it?

I was about to pick up my cat when I slid my hand across the door and somehow got a splinter under my ring finger about 1/2 an inch. Me and my mom tried getting it out but it was too pain-full. A little end is sticking out but the rest won't come with it. So the I thought if I leave it alone (like most of my tiny splinters) would it come out? I really hope so but if not I will just need to move on. Will a splinter that is under your nail come out without bothering it?
It may or may not. Unless it gets infected, even if it does not come out I would not worry.
