Is your tetanus shot upto date? It should be good for 10 years.

While rusty nails and other rough, uneven rusty metal surfaces harbour tetanus bacteria, it also occurs naturally in soil, compost or packaged potting mixtures and animal feces that can be found in the garden.

Typically the tetanus bacteria enters the body through an open wound in the skin, such as the kind you can get by cutting yourself on sharp gardening tools or jagged objects buried in the dirt.

Tetanus is an illness caused by a neurotoxin (or poison) made by bacteria that block normal control of nerve reflexes in the spinal columnShould i worry about stepping on an old nail, it just skined my foot?
Should be fine, But if it gets really painful just take pain killers. or see a doctor if you think you really should. But if it caused some bleeding it might be infected.
